Improved Accuracy, Integrity and Availability of GNSS Positioning
EXPRESSO is a new service which provides EGNOS-based accuracy and integrity augmentation.

Delivered to your "app" through a simple API, EXPRESSO provides a low-risk, low-cost approach to assess the value of EGNOS for technology companies, application developers and service providers.

EXPRESSO is based on EDAS, the service that delivers the EGNOS data over the internet. Following the decoding and reformatting of this raw binary data, EXPREESSO provides a series of real-time EGNOS-based augmentation services. These include
  • enhanced accuracy (through provision of long and short-term corrections, ionospheric grid etc..)
  • enhanced integrity through GIC messages (including UDRE, PRN mask etc..)
  • enhanced availability through the provision of an Assistance service (to improve time to first fix)
  • EGNOS based position-domain correction service for mobile phone LBS applications
The service is approriate for all users of GPS L1 frequency receivers who wish to incorporate, or investigate the benefits of EGNOS.

As well as providing the data for an agreed period of time, subscribers to the EXPRESSO service also receive the ICD documentation, performance and usage metrics and technical documentation that can be readily incorporated into specifications, design documents and project reports.

EXPRESSO Requirements

EXPRESSO can be implemented on virtually any platform that can connect to the internet, with the only proviso being the type of data availabile from the GPS receiver. For effective implementation, this requires more than simply positions and ideally will include complete NMEA records. As an example, NSL has implemented EXPRESSO on Android-based mobile phones.

Latest tests have demonstrated EXPRESSO to provde 1m level positioning accuracies.
